Once again it seems the weather gods have decided to rain on our parade and have given us one of the wettest early January’s anyone can remember. Unless you’re prepared to build an ark and float away, you need to protect your properties and try and direct rain flow away from your homes.
One often overlooked measure is to have excellent quality, durable guttering and roofline.
Fascias and Soffits
Fascias and soffits are some of the most exposed elements of a building so are susceptible to serious wear and tear.
The fascia board is fixed directly to the roof trusses and does all the work of supporting the bottom row of tiles and carrying all the guttering. Given the amount of rainfall we’ve had recently, those gutters could be gathering several gallons of water per second from the rooftop so the fascia needs to be tough and durable.
The soffit board is tucked away under the fascia board and can be ventilated to allow the flow of air into the roof area. Without adequate ventilation your property could allow dampness and condensation to form causing timber decay and structural damage.
